Diversity Foundation's On-Going History Series: The Tuskegee Airmen
Thanks to our association with Diversity Foundation Board Member Sgt. Mamie Singleton and her YIMA program, Diversity has been fortunate to have access to some of America's greatest heroes - The Tuskegee Airmen. We have videotaped and interviewed many in the Minnesota and National African American community incuding Major Joseph P. Gomer, Colonel Kenneth O. Wolford, Colonel Charles E. McGee, among others over the past fifteen years.
In addition to fighting a military force overseas, they also were fighting a war against racism both at home and abroad. In spite of hatred, discrimination, and other challenges mounted against them because of their race, the Tuskegee Airmen became on of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II.
