The Unity Ride represents part of the fulfillment of Lakota prophecies by Dakota visionary Birgil Kills Straight. It is an annual event that works to mend the Sacred Hoop of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations which was broken with the murder of Sitting Bull in l890 and the massacre of Lakota men, women and children at Wounded Knee. The first Unity Ride in 1990 from Bear Butte to Pine Ridge was called “Wiping the Tears of the Seven Generations”
